Camping at Moon Lake

We went camping last week at Moon Lake for our vacation this year. We had never been there before but Neesha and Mark go there every year for his family reunion and said it was nice so we thought we'd check it out. Moon Lake is so pretty! Our camp site was surrounded by pine trees. The first two days we were the only ones around our camp site so it was nice and peaceful. After that we had neighbors (including Mark's brother but we never did go say hi). Our first day at Moon Lake we set up camp, explored the campground and lake and made a dam in the river which resulted in adding a new course of the river to the lake. Our second day we decided to go on a hike to the north end of the lake. Everything is so pretty here. There were trees and huge boulders everywhere. We even ran into wildlife on this hike. I almost stepped on a snake that was taking a break in the middle of the trail and on our way back we ran into a bear! There were signs all over the campground saying this was bear country and Adam and I talked about bears this entire trip and we actually saw one. We were just coming back from the top of the lake when we heard rustling a little ahead of us. This is how the conversation goes. Keira: "Oh my gosh it's a bear!" Adam: "No, it's not a bear...Oh my gosh it's a bear!" Luckily the bear had heard us coming and right when it saw us it starting running up the mountain. That bear ran pretty quick up a steep mountain. Sadly, we didn't get a picture of the bear as it was very quick and we didn't want to stick around. So after our adventurous hike we decided to relax back at camp for the rest of the day. On friday we went out on the lake in a little rubber raft. We paddled all the way across the lake to the other shore just so we could say we did it. It was a lot of work. The wind picks up in the middle of the lake and makes a lot of little waves and the current is always pushing you up the lake. If you sat for too long not rowing then you ended up way farther up the lake then you wanted to go. We were going to go swimming in the lake but the water was so cold! That night our friends Kelly and Jake joined us. We went out on the lake with them the next day and paddled around in our rafts. Most the time we just let the current take us which meant we had a lot of paddling to do to get us back to our beach. It was a very nice trip and we will probably go back someday.

Moon Lake and the hike around it

Adam testing out our new water filter. I waited a day after he started drinking the filtered water before I would drink it just to make sure I wouldn't die.

On our way home we spotted this great place called Pinn Willies. We decided to stop in for some lunch. The place looks questionable to eat at but it had really good hamburgers and fries. It also had really nice moose and deer heads to look at while we lunched.
